Caviar20 is excited to be (finally!) offering another example of the work of Bernd & Hilla Becher.
This Leporello, entitled "Forty Are Better Than One" is a dramatic single work of art made up of five images.
Like the best of their work, this is a series of images (called "typologies") of slightly menacing and very sculptural industrial/agricultural buildings.
Bernd & Hilla began working together in 1959. Throughout their career the couple would present images of similar (often industrial) structures, encouraging the viewer to make comparisons of these typically ignored elaborate and fascinating buildings. Some of their favorite subjects included factory furnaces and water towers.
Together they would have a significant influence on late 20th century photography, and to a lesser degree conceptualism and minimalism. Numerous contemporary photographers, such as Andreas Gursky, and are indebted to their aesthetics and conceptual approach.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire an affordable work by one of the most distinctive and influential artists of the 20th century.
